Caruso

I enjoyed Caruso.  It's discreet and laidback.
The food was excellent, and service even more so.

Caruso Ristorante Italiano is in LRI Building, Nicanor Garcia St. (formerly Reposo St.),
Bel-Air Village, Makati City.

CITY TRAVEL: Walking Shoes

City Travel: Walking Shoes [WARM WEATHER]
revised and/or updated as of 12 August 2014

I am losing the battle versus ugly travel shoes.

What I have:

  • brown sandals:   Fit Flop [bronze]
  • all-terrain sandals:   Keens Newport H2 Kids [navy]
  • stylish sneakers:   Puma [leather gold]

I have to retire those Fit Flop sandals for travel. Their size 5 is loose for me, and I ended up with blisters on the sole of my foot when I was in Hawaii.  I know, Honolulu isn't exactly a walking city, but what limited walking we did was enough to give me blisters from my Fit Flop sandals.  The cushioning was superb; my only problem was, like I said, the size was off for me.

As for the Keens, I bring them along in case I have to go trekking or something or where it may be slippery or whatever.   I know they'll likely get more use for beach holidays, but if luggage space is not an issue, I always feel better if I pack my Keens along.  They make me feel ready for anything. (Even if they are so incredibly tourist-y looking).

Admittedly, these Pumas do not really get a lot of wear for me.  I use them mainly in the airport, because I prefer to wear socks during air travel, and while they are indeed extremely comfy for walking, the fact of the matter is that they do not look too good with slim pants or shorts.  (I bought them when bootcut jeans were still the rage).  This is another pair I have to retire.

What I need (CITY TRAVEL - WALKING SHOES FOR WARM WEATHER):*

1. basic flip flops for the hotel: Havaianas
2. black ballet flats with good cushioning/padded insoles, and sturdy soles: Kenneth Cole
3. black slip ons: Toms
4. tan low wedge cork sandals: Worishofer (711 in Rheseda)

5. black low stacked-heel sandals for dinners and night outs: Sam Edelman (Trina)
6. all-terrain sandals: Keen

Always pack: mid-cut and/or lo-cut sneakers.

*Random, what I am currently liking.  Some pairs may be redundant or dispensable. This will most likely be trimmed down.

I don't plan to bring all of these pairs when I travel, mind!  The flip-flops are a must for when we're in the hotel or taking a dip in the hotel pool.   Also, for cities like Hong Kong or Singapore, where we go usually every year, I would need to pack dressy wedges or something for when we head out at night.

Most of what I need is geared for travel in neighboring countries, of course, and that obviously takes into consideration the tropical climates there.   I find that for other Asian countries, my trusty old Toms are more than sufficient for city walking.  I am looking at the Worishofers for sandals, but I do tend to like keeping my toes covered when we're sight-seeing.   I wouldn't recommend them for touring in Europe though.  I know for a fact that those Toms won't last long on the cobblestone streets in our old hometown in Belgium.  But since I don't have a European tour planned for the near future, these pairs will do for now!
